CSU Looks to Bounce Back Against Lafayette

BALTIMORE- The Coppin State women's basketball team will complete the UVA Cavalier Classic when it squares off against Lafayette College Leopards at 4:30 p.m. ET on December 29 at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA.
 
This is the first ever matchup for both programs.
 
Both teams are coming off losses in the first day of the UVA Cavalier Classic.
 
Coppin State (2-9) is looking to complete the 2015 calendar year with a win.
 
Janelle Lane leads the Eagles with 10.5 points per game on 50.0% shooting from the field. Lane is fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in field goal percentage. She also leads Coppin State with 11 blocks. Lane is adding 4.5 rebounds per contest, which is third on the team.
 
Lane has back-to-back double figure games and seven total this season.
 
Senior guard Amber Griffin is scoring on a 9.6 point per game clip. She is adding 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists as well. Griffin is shooting 43.9% from the floor. Griffin is second on the team with 29 assists and now has 322 total for her career.
 
She secured a team high four steals in the setback to UVA, one short of her career high. Griffin is sixth in the MEAC in minutes per game (33.9).
 
Seniors Jordan Swails and Omaah Tayong are both adding 8.5 points for the Lady Eagles. Both players are in the top 20 in the MEAC in rebounding and defensive rebounding.
 
Swails is tied for second in the MEAC in steals per game (2.0). She leads Coppin State with 22 steals on the season.
 
Tayong leads the Lady Eagles in rebounding (7.5) per game. She is in the top 10 in the MEAC in rebounding, offensive rebounding (3.1) and defensive rebounding (4.5).  Tayong has five or more rebounds in every game this season.
 
She is also shooting 48.8% accuracy from the field, which is fifth in the MEAC. Tayong is second on the team with six blocks.
 
Genesis Lucas is chipping in 7.3 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. Lucas dished out a team high seven assists against UVA, one off her career high.
 
She is tied for second in the MEAC in steals per game and third in the MEAC in assists. Lucas has led the Lady Eagles in assists 15 times and steals 10 times in her career. She leads Coppin State with 34 assists and 18 steals through nine games this season.
Keena Samuels is averaging 8.2 points per game. She has started the last five games for the Lady Eagles.
 
Meanwhile, the Lafayette Leopards have loss three of its last five games.
 
Jamie O'Hare leads the team with 16.4 points, 4.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. Sammy Stipa is adding 7.2 points and 3.2 assists for the Leopards.
 
Coppin State will return to action after the New Year with its conference home opener against Norfolk State January 4 with tipoff at 6:00 p.m. in PEC Arena.
