CSU continues road trip at UVA Cavalier Classic

BALTIMORE- The Coppin State women's basketball team will head to Charlottesville, VA to participate in the 2015 UVA Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
 
The Lady Eagles will take on the Virginia Cavaliers Monday night at John Paul Jones Arena with 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
 
The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 3-0 with the last victory coming in the 2013 Cavalier Classic, 70-45 over the Eagles.
 
Coppin State (2-8) has two players averaging double figures.
 
Senior Janelle Lane leads CSU in scoring with 10.5 points per game. She is also grabbing 4.6 rebounds on a team best 51.3% shooting from the field. She is fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in field goal percentage.
 
Lane has six games with 10 or more points and leads the Eagles with nine blocks on the season. She recorded a career high three steals against Auburn.
 
Amber Griffin is averaging 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 33.5 minutes per game. She is shooting 45.6 accuracy from the floor, good for seventh in the MEAC.
 
Griffin led CSU with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 39 minutes on 4-of-5 shooting from the field in the setback to Auburn. She now has 321 career assists.
 
Jordan Swails is adding nine points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals per contest. She is tied for third in the MEAC in steals per game (2.0). She leads Coppin State with 20 steals on the season.
 
Swails is in the top half of the MEAC in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds.
 
Genesis Lucas is chipping in 7.8 points, 3.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 33.5 minutes per contest through eight games. She has led the Eagles in assists 14 times and steals ten times in her career.
 
Lucas is second in the MEAC in steals and third in assists. She is second on the team with 17 steals.
 
Omaah Tayong is contributing 8.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest. Her 7.7 rebounds leads the Eagles and is fifth in the MEAC. She is also fifth in the MEAC in field goal percentage at 48.7%.
 
Tayong is fifth in the MEAC in defensive rebounding (4.7) and tied for eighth in the MEAC in offensive rebounding (3.0). She tied a career high with three steals against Auburn.
 
Coppin State is in the top five in the MEAC in scoring offense, field goal percentage, 3-point defense, rebounding, rebounding margin, assists, steals, and offensive and defensive rebounding.
 
The Virginia Cavaliers (8-4) are coming off a 93-73 loss to Ohio State.
 
The Cavaliers Mikayla Venson leads all scorers with 15.3 points and 2.8 assists per game. Faith Randolph is adding 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest.
 
The Lady Eagles will complete the UVA Cavalier Classic with a matchup against Lafayette College Tuesday afternoon December 29 at 4:30 in John Paul Jones Arena.
