Coppin Drops 2015 Home Finale to Eastern Michigan

BALTIMORE- Playing in its final home game of the 2015 calendar year the Coppin State (2-11) men's basketball team dropped a 73-62 decision to the Eastern Michigan Eagles Monday night in the Physical Education Complex.

Eastern Michigan leads the all-time series 2-0.

Head coach Michael Grant was pleased with how his team came out and competed.

"It was a tough game for us," said Grant, who is in his second year as head coach of Coppin State. "We came out and played really good with a lot of energy in the first half. But we're not going to beat anyone shooting 17% in the second half. We were getting great looks, we just have to start converting those looks into points."

Junior guard Christian Kessee led CSU with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. He scored 17 of his 18 points in the first half on 5-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Kessee is averaging 13.3 points and 2.3 assists on 7 made 3-point field goals over Coppin State's last three contests. He leads the Eagles with 24 made 3-pointers this season.

Terry Harris Jr., finished with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and one block on 4-of-7 accuracy from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. He led the Eagles with 13 second half points.

Harris Jr., has eight double figure scoring games this season. He leads Coppin State in scoring (12.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg). Harris Jr., is second on the team with 10 blocks.

James Sylvester led the Eagles with 14 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal off the bench. He shot 50% from the field going 5-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. All of his points came in the first half for CSU.

Sylvester finished the game with four offensive rebounds and leads the team with 32 overall this season. He is second on the team with 16 made 3-pointers this season on 48.5% accuracy.

Junior Trevon Seymore added nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and one block in 35 minutes of game action for Coppin State. He had two or more steals in three consecutive games for the Eagles.

Eastern Michigan (7-4) forward James Thompson IV led the Eagles with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Tim Bond finished with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Coach Grant and his team continues it tough non-conference road schedule with games against two solid programs out of Iowa (Creighton and Iowa State).

"It doesn't get any easier for us," Grant said. "We have to play with more aggression and get in attack mode earlier in the shot clock. We also need to make plays down the stretch and finish games strong."

Coppin State will head on the road for a two game Iowa road trip. The Eagles will visit Omaha, NE for a matchup with Creighton University December 28 at 8:00 p.m. (CT) in the CenturyLink Center. The game can be viewed on Fox Sports 1.
