BALTIMORE – The Coppin State women's basketball team is looking to add to its current two game win streak when the Lady Eagles take the floor against the Bowie State Bulldogs Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.
Coppin State defeated Mount St. Mary's 66-55 on Sunday evening for its first home win of the 2015-16 season. This will be the first of two roads games for the Bulldogs in the month of December.
In a win over Mount St. Mary's, seniors
Amber Griffin and
Jordan Swails enjoyed career outings. Griffin finished with a career best 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field. Swails recorded her fourth career double double with 11 points and a career high 16 rebounds. She also added two blocks and two steals.
Griffin is shooting 52 percent in five games this season. She selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Sophomore
Genesis Lucas led the Eagles with five assists and six steals. It was her ninth time she leading the Eagles in both categories in her career.
Through five games, the Eagles have three players averaging double figures led by senior
Janelle Lane's 12.4 point per game average.
Amber Griffin 11.4 points per outing and
Keena Samuels scores at a 10.8 per game clip.
Meanwhile, Bowie State is coming off back-to-back home wins against the University of D.C. and Felician College.
Sophomore guards Kiara Colston and Kyah Proctor are the team's top scorers through the opening five games. Colston leads the squad with 17.6 points per game, while Proctor is turning in 16.4 points per contest. Colston has scored in double figures in all five of the Bulldogs games so far this season, including a career high 22 points in a win over Felician Sunday afternoon.
Coppin State returns to action for three straight road games against opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The first of those games will be in Coral Gables, FL against the University of Miami Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
