Ariel Richard had 12 kills and 12 digs, but Maryland Eastern Shore rallied to defeat Coppin State 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match on Friday in the Physical Education Complex.
Richard posted her second straight double-double and her seventh on the season to pace Coppin State. She also had three service aces and two blocks.
Coppin State (3-16, 0-4 MEAC) hit a blistering .429 in winning the first set, but failed to hit above .000 in any of the remaining three sets.
Maryland Eastern Shore (11-6, 2-0 MEAC) received 13 kills each from Maline Vaitai and Saitaua Iosia and 10 kills from Kaveinga Lea'Aetoa.
The Hawks also used a dominating blocking performance to remain undefeated in the conference as UMES registered 13.5 blocks for the match.
Coppin State closed the first set on a 4-0 run to claim the victory. Richard, Epps and Massey each recorded kills and Richard fired a service ace to wrap up the set.
The Hawks then rallied to win the next three sets to win the match.
Coppin State will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 9) when it hosts Delaware State at 3 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.
