Emperess Johnson, a dedicated scholar-athlete hailing from Hyattsville, Maryland, brings a wealth of talent and passion to the Coppin State University tennis team. Her journey to Coppin State has been marked by outstanding achievements and unwavering determination.

Emperess is a graduate of Northwestern High School. During her high school playing career, Emperess made a name for herself in the tennis world, becoming a regional champion in both singles and doubles from 2016 to 2020.

Following her high school success, Emperess embarked on her academic and athletic journey at Tuskegee University. However, her pursuit of excellence led her to Coppin State University as a transfer student, where she is majoring in Sport Management.

In the world of tennis, Emperess has a rich history of participation in junior tournaments. She competed in USTA L2-L4 tournaments and achieved notable success at the ATA Nationals, where she reached the finals in Girls' 16 Doubles and clinched the championship in Girls' 18 Doubles.

Beyond her tennis endeavors, Emperess has clear career aspirations. Her long-term vision is to give back to underserved communities by establishing her own tennis facility. Emperess is also dedicated to her education and aims to graduate with a 4.0 GPA. In the distant future, she aspires to become a professional Sport Psychologist, using her expertise to support athletes in their mental and emotional well-being.

Emperess's family has played a significant role in shaping her tennis journey. Her father introduced her and her siblings to tennis at the tender age of 4. Her older sister serves as the USTA area manager for Southern California, her brother coaches at a division 3 school, her younger sister competes at Virigina State University , and her father has experience as a former tennis coach.

Emperess currently serves as the Vice President of the Coppin State Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). She is also a member of Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority inc. In the fall of 2022 Emperess created “Empowering Juniors for Girls” mentorship program serves girls 10-18 in Baltimore City and Washington, DC. Emperess is an intern at AthleteTalk a mental health and wellness app. Lastly Johnson is WomenX Demand Leadership Fellow and mentor for the Athletic Mentorship Program powered by the Coppin State University Eagle Achievement Center.
