Baseball Doubles Up New Haven, 6-3 in Game Two of Series

HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team led from start to finish in a 6-3 victory over New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles now stand at 9-31 overall and 9-17 in the NEC while the Chargers fell to 9-29 on the year and 8-15 in league play.
 
Jordan Treadwell had three of Coppin's seven base hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Angel Garcia drove in three runs with a double and a sacrifice fly while Armando (AJ) Hurtado drew a pair of walks to go with a run and Marcus Sanders also scored twice.
 
Nicco Holland earned his team-leading fourth win of the season, allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out five.  Justin Ritz picked up his fourth save of the season, giving up just one hit over the final 3.0 innings.
 
Garcia gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first before Terrell Milliner singled through the right side to score Hurt ado to make it a two-run game. Garcia drove in another run in the second on a fielder's choice and the Eagles tacked on another in the fourth when Pranav Sundar reached on a two-base throwing error which allowed Emilio Feliciano to score all the way from second.
 
New Haven got on the board with two runs in the fourth, but Holland got through the fifth and sixth while facing the minimum. A single by Treadwell in the bottom of the fifth scored Sanders from second, extending CSU's lead to 5-2, but the Chargers got one back with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
 
Garcia recorded his third RBI of the game in the eighth with a double down the left field line, driving in Treadwell after he singled and got to second on a groundout.
 
Ritz gave up a one-out single in the ninth but completed the save with a 5-4-3 double play.
 
The teams wrap up their series at 12 pm on Sunday, May 3 at Joe Cannon Stadium.
