Treadwell Blasts Two Home Runs in Baseball’s Loss to New Haven

HANOVER, Md. – Jordan Treadwell's two home runs were not enough as Coppin State's baseball team dropped its series finale to New Haven, 9-8 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles now stand at 9-32 overall and 9-18 in the NEC while the Chargers moved to 10-29 on the year and 9-15 in league play.

A junior from Menifee, Calif., Treadwell went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a walk while Angel Garcia, Nelson Grajales and Terrell Milliner also had multi-hit games. Grajales and Milliner also scored twice while Milliner also drove in a pair of runs.

Abel Ortiz had the longest outing of the season, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings. Jake Cumming and Luke Corcoran were charged with two runs apiece before Justin Ritz struck out two while allowing no runs in his inning of work. Mekenna Wakakuwa also threw a scoreless inning.

Treadwell gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the first before New Haven tied it up in the top of the third.  Coppin responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, starting with a two-run double by Milliner to drive in Garcia and Grajales.  Emilio Feliciano came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Pranav Sundar and Milliner made it a 5-1 score with a run on a wild pitch.

New Haven scored eight unanswered runs over the next five innings before Treadwell homered again in the eighth. Coppin rallied in the ninth for a pair of runs to make it a one-run game as Grajales scored all the way from first as Milliner singled to left and the error got all the way to the wall.  Marcus Sanders followed with an RBI single before a new pitcher got the final out of the game.

Coppin heads to UMBC for a 3 pm start on Tuesday, May 5 before heading to Wagner for a three-game series on May 8-10.  The Eagles wrap up the season at home against Delaware State on May 14-16.
