Treadwell Leads Baseball Past Wagner, 12-11 in Final Road Game

MADISON, N.J. – Jordan Treadwell went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, leading the Coppin State baseball team to a 12-11 victory at Wagner on Sunday afternoon.  The Eagles moved to 10-35 on the year and 10-20 in the NEC while the Seahawks fell to 26-21 while clinching a spot in the NEC Tournament.

A junior from Menifee, Calif., Treadwell was one of four CSU players with multi-hit games as Angel Garcia, Nelson Grajales and Marcus Sanders had two hits apiece. Sanders had a triple and a double while driving in two runs while Garcia and Grajales collected RBIs. Garcia also scored twice and Terrell Milliner also drove in three runs with a hit and two walks.

Abel Ortiz threw the first 3.0 innings and gave up four runs while Luke Corcoran picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits over the next 3.1 innings.  Justin Ritz earned his fifth save of the season while throwing the final 2.2 innings with three earned runs.

A six-run first inning set the tone early for the Eagles with Treadwell blasting a two-run home run to get the scoring started. Milliner and Sanders also connected for extra-base hits, driving in two runs with each of their knocks. Garcia also drove a run with single in the second to put Coppin on top, 7-0.

Wagner got on the board with two runs in its half of the second, but Treadwell singled through the right side in the third, bringing home Bryce Thompson, to get one of the runs back.  However, the Seahawks added two more in the bottom of the inning, cutting CSU's lead to 8-4.

Treadwell drove in Sanders with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, extending the advantage to five, before the Seahawks struck for a four-run seventh to pull within one.

Grajales and Milliner drove in runs in the eighth and Pedro Agosto was credited with a steal of home to put Coppin up, 12-8.  Wagner scored twice in the eighth and pulled to within one in the ninth before Ritz retired the next three batters.

Coppin wraps up the season on May 14-16 at Joe Cannon Stadium against longtime rival Delaware State.  Thursday's game is set for 3 pm, followed by 1 pm starts on both Friday and Saturday.
