Baseball Doubles Up Stonehill, 10-5, in Series Finale

EASTON, Mass. – Nelson Grajales and Pedro Agosto combined for seven RBIs to lead the Coppin State baseball team to a 10-5 victory at Stonehill on Sunday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.  The Eagles moved to 8-29 overall and 8-16 in league play while the Skyhawks fell to 17-21 on the year and 14-7 in league play.

Grajales finished 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI while Agosto was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs to lead the Eagles offensively. Armando (AJ) Hurtado connected for a home run for one of his two hits and Emilio Feliciano added three hits as well.

Nicco Holland picked up his third win of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking none in 6.0 innings.  Justin Ritz gave up just one run on three hits over the final 3.0 innings to pick up his third save of the season.

Stonehill took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the second, but Coppin cut the deficit in half on an RBI fielder's choice by Jordan Treadwell in the third. Noah Hogan lifted a fly ball to deep right for a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the score, but the Skyhawks regained a two-run lead at 4-2 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Coppin took its first lead of the game with a three-run sixth after a solo home run by Hurtado, followed by a two-run double by Grajales which scored both Angel Garcia and Agosto. Agosto tacked on another run in the seventh with a single to score Treadwell, giving the Eagles a 6-4 lead.

The Skyhawks moved to within one with a run in the seventh, but the Eagles put the game out of reach with four runs in the ninth.  Back-to-back walks issued to Hogan and Treadwell, followed by a bunt single by Hurtado loaded the bases before a pair of two-run singles by Agosto and Grajales.

Ritz allowed a leadoff single in the ninth but retired the next three batters to seal the win in the series finale.

CSU heads to Mount St. Mary's for a 3 pm start on Tuesday, April 28 before hosting New Haven for a three-game NEC series on May 1-3.
