EMMITSBURG, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team was unable to hold on to a two-run lead, falling 6-2 at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles now stand at 8-30 on the season while the Mount improved to 19-22 overall.
Emilio Feliciano hit his first home run of the season, but Coppin managed just three hits on the afternoon with
Jordan Treadwell and
Nelson Grajales accounting for the others.
Angel Garcia also drew a pair of walks for the Eagles.
Abel Ortiz gave up just one earned run on one hit over the first 3.0 innings before
Jackson Montgomery allowed two runs over the next 1.2 innings.
Luke Corcoran was charged with one earned over 1.1 innings and
Justin Ritz tossed a scoreless inning while making his new CSU-record 59
th relief appearance. Ritz has made 60 total appearances in his three seasons with the Eagles which is tied for fourth in school history.
Jake Cumming also gave up a run in his lone inning of work.
Feliciano connected for a solo home run in the top of the first inning and the Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 in the third when Treadwell scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
Mount St. Mary's tied the score with two runs in its half of the third and took its first lead with two runs in the fifth. The hosts also tacked on runs in the sixth and eighth as Coppin failed to score over the final six innings.
The Eagles host New Haven in a three-game NEC series on May 1-3 at Joe Cannon Stadium. Friday's opener is set for 3 pm, followed by 1 pm on Saturday and 12 pm on Sunday.
