EASTON, Mass. – Angel Garcia recorded a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the second-straight game as Coppin State's baseball team fell at Stonehill, 13-3, on Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field. The Eagles fell to 7-29 overall and 7-16 in the NEC while the Skyhawks improved to 17-20 on the year and 14-6 in league play.
A freshman from Miami, Fla., Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, but only
Armando (AJ) Hurtado also added an extra-base hit. The Eagles committed four errors, including a pair by the outfield which led to six unearned runs.
Dillon Kirksey took the loss, allowing four earned runs on just three hits in 5.1 innings before
Justin Ritz got through the sixth inning while giving up an unearned run on three hits.
Mekenna Wakakuwa was charged with three runs on a pair of hits in 0.2 innings before Stonehill extended its lead to ten runs in its half of the seventh.
Stonehill scored four runs in the bottom of the first before Coppin got on the board with a run in the second on an RBI single by
Bryce Thompson. Garcia doubled down the left field line in the third to score
Emilio Feliciano and Hurtado to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Kirksey retired the next eight Skyhawks he saw before Stonehill struck for six runs in the sixth on four hits and three errors. CSU went down in order in the seventh and the Skyhawks pulled away with three runs to clinch the win.
