BALTIMORE – Coppin State's softball team dropped its series opener at Morgan State, 9-4, on Friday afternoon at Lois T. Murray Field. The Eagles fell to 8-23 overall while the Bears improved to 10-26 and both teams stand at 7-12 in the MEAC.
Kyle Sandino and
Leslie Sereno both had multi-hit games and drove in runs while Sandino also scored twice to lead CSU offensively.
Emily Quintero allowed seven runs over the first 1.1 innings before
Debra Hyde went the final 4.2 innings, giving up just one run on three hits.
Morgan struck for eight runs over the first two innings before Coppin got on the board with two runs in the fourth.
Brooklyn Lee-Scott reached on a fielder's choice after
Giselle Ulloa singled and scored all the way from first following a single by Sandino and a throwing error. Sereno followed with a double to score Sandino from second.
After a scoreless fifth, Coppin cut the deficit to 8-4 with two more runs in the sixth on a home run from Sandino and back-to-back doubles by Sereno and
Xzylia Maravilla. The Bears got a run back in its half of the inning and CSU left two runners on in the seventh.
Game two of the doubleheader was postponed and tomorrow will feature a twinbill starting at 11:00 am.
