HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team fell to LIU, 13-1, in their NEC series finale on Sunday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Eagles fell to 7-27 overall and 7-14 in the NEC while the Sharks moved to 16-16 on the year and 15-6 in league play.
Emilio Feliciano went 3-for-3 and drove in the team's lone run while
Nelson Grajales and
Noah Hogan had the team's other base hits.
Nicco Halland gave up five earned runs over the first 4.1 innings before giving way to
Mekenna Wakakuwa and
Keith Wallace.
Abel Ortiz struck out four of the six batters he faced to finish the game.
LIU struck for three runs in the first before Holland got a double play ball to end the second inning unscathed. The Sharks added two in the third tacked on one in both the fourth and fifth before erupting for six runs in the sixth.
The Eagles got on the board in the sixth with back-to-back doubles from Grajales and Feliciano before the side was retired. Ortiz struck out a pair of batters in the seventh and the Eagles went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
CSU travels to Stonehill for a three-game series on April 24-26.
