EMMITSBURG, Md. – Coppin State's softball team dropped a midweek tilt at Mount St. Mary's, 10-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The Eagles fall to 2-16 on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 10-20.
Aniyah Haley had two of Coppin's four base hits while scoring a run as
Emily Quintero drove in a run while adding a single and a pair of sacrifices.
Tatjana Harris was charged with seven earned runs on eight hits while striking out one over the first 3.0 innings.
Debra Hyde gave up just one run over the final 2.0 innings.
CSU took a 1-0 lead after its half of the first inning when Haley scored from third on a wild pitch. Haley led off the game with a bunt single before advancing to second on a wild pitch before Quintero bunted her over to third.
Mount St. Mary's scored three runs in the bottom of the first before Harris held the Mount scoreless in the second. The hosts erupted for six runs on five hits in the third to take a 9-1 lead, and Coppin extended the game with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Quintero to deep center.
Cameran Corbett scored from third on the play after starting the inning with a walk and advancing to third on Haley's single.
After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, the hosts sealed the win in the sixth with a trio of hits.
The Eagles head to Towson for a 3 pm single game on Wednesday, April 1 before traveling to Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game MEAC series on April 3-4.
