Baseball Drops Midweek Tilt at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt at Richmond, 19-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Pitt Field. The Eagles fell to 2-10 on the season while the Spiders improved to 10-7.

Nelson Grajales had Coppin's lone RBI with a single in the sixth with Emilio Feliciano, Agustin Murillo, Jr., and Brennen Barczai recording the other base hits for the Eagles.  Barczai doubled in a pinch-hit appearance and both Angel Garcia and Jordan Treadwell drawing walks.

Aaden Lopez allowed four earned runs in the start, and he was followed by Brandon Stephens who had the longest outing for a CSU pitcher by giving up three runs over 1.1 innings. Edwin Sanchez, Nick Dolbin, Jack Joyce and Jackson Montgomery all threw an inning apiece with Joyce and Lopez fanning a pair of Spiders.

Richmond scored in each inning, recording five in the first, three in the second, two in the third and three more in each of the next three innings.

In the sixth, Coppin got on the board as Grajales grounded out which scored Treadwell from third following his leadoff walk.  He got to third following a throwing error on a fielder's choice.

The Eagles play a three-game NEC series at FDU on March 13-15.
