BALTIMORE – Five Eagles scored in double figures, but the Coppin State men's basketball team fell to Morgan State, 89-80 on Saturday evening at PEC Arena. Coppin fell to 3-20 overall and 1-5 in the MEAC while the Bears moved to 9-13 on the year and 5-2 in league play.
DeMariontay Hall had a team-high 12 points in just 18 minutes before fouling out while
Taj Thweatt followed with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Khali Horton, Hassan Perkins, and
Camaren Sparrow scored ten points apiece while
Tyler Koenig and
Baasil Saunders added eight points each.
Perkins also dished out six assists while
Torrin Andrews was credited with four assists in just nine minutes. Sparrow also grabbed six rebounds and three steals.
Morgan outshot Coppin, 48.2% to 45.0% and hit 27-of-38 free throws to Coppin's 20-of-35 from the line. The Bears never trailed after scoring the first four points of the game and led by as many as 45-25 with 4:17 left in the first half.
The Eagles closed the first half on a 7-0 run to pull within 45-32 at the break but were unable to get any closer than an eight-point deficit in the second half.
Coppin hosts Howard on Monday, February 2 at 6 pm in a conference matchup that was originally scheduled for Monday, January 26.
