Baseball Drops Game Two to Stonehill; Wraps Up Pivotal Series on Sunday

HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team managed just four hits in an 11-4 NEC loss to Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles fell to 14-28 overall and 12-11 in the NEC while the Skyhawks improved to 17-25 on the year and 15-8 in league play.

Gavin Grutzmacher, Anthony Divittorio, Daniel Moore and Jayden Asencio all drove in runs for the Eagles while Pranav Sundar and Elijah Charlot added base hits. Asencio was the lone Coppin player with an extra-base hit.

Jobe Olson allowed just two earned runs on six hits while striking out four in the first 5.0 innings to take the loss. Luke Corcoran went the final 4.0 innings and gave up five runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Stonehill scored the first five runs with three in the second and two in the third before Coppin got on the board with a three-run third. Sundar and Charlot had hits while Brennen Barczai drew a walk, loading the bases with no outs. Grutzmacher was then plunked to score the first run before an RBI groundout and sacrifice fly from Divittorio and Moore.

Olson shut down the Skyhawks in the fourth and fifth but Stonehill tacked on a run in the sixth and eighth off Corcoran. The visitors added four insurance runs in the ninth to take a commanding 11-3 lead.

Moore and Gabe Breckenridge reached to start the ninth for the Eagles and advanced on a wild pitch. Asencio flew out to deep right for a sacrifice fly and Sundar was later hit by a pitch before a flyout to center ended the game.

The Eagles and Skyhawks close the series at 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 3 at Joe Cannon Stadium.
