Moore Leads Baseball to Comeback Victory Against Stonehill

HANOVER, Md. – Daniel Moore went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, helping Coppin State's baseball team overcome a six-run deficit and defeat Stonehill College, 12-11, on Friday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles improved to 14-27 overall and 12-10 in the Northeast Conference while the Skyhawks fell to 16-25 on the year and 14-8 in the NEC.
 
Moore also added a pair of doubles and a single, finishing a triple shy of the cycle while drawing a walk and scoring three times. All but one CSU starter had a base hit with Gavin Grutzmacher, Anthony Divittorio and Indy Anderson also have multi-hit games.  Grutzmacher matched Moore with three runs as Divittorio and Noah Hogan had two RBI apiece.
 
Reagan Rivera struck out nine batters in his 6.0 innings of work and is now just one punchout shy of matching the CSU single-season record of 87, held by Jordan HambergJustin Ritz threw the final 3.0 innings and got the win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four.
 
Moore gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead with an opposite field home run in the first. Stonehill responded with five runs in the second and added three more in the third to take an 8-2 lead.
 
Coppin cut the deficit in half with a three-run fourth, coming with back-to-back RBI doubles by Divittorio and Moore.
 
The Skyhawks got a run back in the sixth on a wild pitch before the Eagles retook the lead with a five-run sixth, which was stopped with two outs due to lightning.  Moore got the scoring started with an RBI infield single to short, followed by a single from Hogan.  Pranav Sundar followed with a walk with the bases loaded and Jamar Whitehead was plunked, tying the score at nine.
 
Elijah Charlot gave Coppin the 10-9 lead, reaching on a fielder's choice, allowing Hogan to score from third, before the stoppage.
 
Stonehill was able to score two in the seventh, retaking the lead, but it was short-lived as Anderson singled home Divittorio, followed by a sacrifice fly by Hogan to put Coppin back on top.
 
Ritz allowed a leadoff walk in the eighth but struck out two of the next three batters and then got through the ninth unscathed for the win.
 
Coppin and Stonehill resume their three-game series at 1 pm on Saturday, April 3 at Joe Cannon Stadium.  Prior to first pitch, several Coppin State baseball alumni will be recognized.
