BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Despite outhitting league-leading LIU for the third-straight game, Coppin State's baseball team fell to the Sharks, 7-3, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fell to 15-31 overall and 13-14 in the NEC while LIU improved to 29-20 on the year and 22-5 in league play.
Four CSU players had multi-hit games with
Gavin Grutzmacher,
Anthony Divittorio,
Bryce Thompson and
Pranav Sundar all recording a pair of hits apiece.
Indy Anderson,
Noah Hogan and Thompson all drove in runs while Divittorio,
Daniel Moore and Anderson crossing home plate.
Kaden Straily took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits while striking out two in 4.0 innings.
Brandon Stephens no-hit and blanked the Sharks for the next 3.1 innings while striking out four before
Justin Ritz retired the only two batters he faced to close the eighth.
LIU took command of the game early with three runs in each of the first two innings before adding a seventh run in the fourth.
Coppin got on the board with a three-run sixth, tallying five hits in the inning. Grutzmacher led off with a single before being forced out at second with Divittorio reaching on a fielder's choice. After a single by Moore, Divittorio scored on a double by Anderson, and Moore scored on a single by Hogan. Thompson was the fourth-straight Eagles player to record a hit which allowed Anderson to score.
CSU had a pair of hits in both the seventh and eighth but failed to capitalize before going down in order in the ninth.
