HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team gave up eight runs over the seventh and eighth innings and fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 13-3 on Thursday afternoon in the series opener at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Eagles fell to 15-32 overall and 13-15 in the Northeast Conference while the Knights improved to 14-37 on the year and 14-14 in the NEC.
Anthony Divittorio and
Daniel Moore both had a pair of hits and drove in a run while Divittorio also scored twice to go with a triple.
Indy Anderson was also credited with an RBI while drawing a walk as
Noah Hogan and
Bryce Thompson had a hit and a walk apiece.
Luke Corcoran gave up four earned runs on six hits over the first 4.0 innings before
Jobe Olson allowed six runs while striking out five in the next 3.1 innings.
Keith Wallace retired the final two batters which included a strikeout.
FDU scored five runs over the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead, but Olson held the Knights scoreless in the fifth while fanning the last two batters. Coppin got on the board in the bottom half of the frame on RBI base knocks from Divittorio and Moore.
Gavin Grutzmacher started the rally with a two-out walk before Divittorio's triple to left center. Divittorio easily scored later on Moore's single to left.
Olson gave up just one hit in the sixth to hold FDU in check once again but allowed four runs in the seventh on just one hit. Anderson helped the Eagles get a run back with an RBI single to right, easily bringing in Divittorio who had a two-out single before reaching third on a single by Moore.
FDU tacked on three more in the eighth and Coppin was unable to take advantage of a pair of walks in its half.
The final NEC series of the season resumes on Friday, May 16 at Joe Cannon Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
