Baseball Drops Second-Straight to Le Moyne; Wraps Up Series on Sunday

HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped its second-straight Northeast Conference game to Le Moyne by a 15-6 margin on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles fell to 13-25 overall and 11-9 in the NEC while the Dolphins improved to 14-22 on the year and 13-7 in league play.

Gavin Grutzmacher and Indy Anderson both had a pair of hits while Grutzmacher also went deep for a home run. The duo also drove in one run with Pranav Sundar driving in a pair. Daniel Moore also had a base hit, an RBI and drew two walks.

Jobe Olson got the start on the mound, allowing one run on three hits while striking out a pair in 3.0 innings. Luke Corcoran received the loss, giving up five runs in 1.1 innings before Isaiah Licorish was charged with five runs in the next 2.2 innings. Brandon Stephens threw two scoreless innings and matched Licorish with three strikeouts.

Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings before Le Moyne struck first with a run in the third. Grutzmacher evened the score with a solo home run in the third before both teams put up odd numbers in the fifth.

Le Moyne put together six runs and took advantage of a CSU error to score eight runs in the fifth.  Coppin scored five runs in the frame, which was delayed for lightning midway through. The bases were loaded with no outs before Moore and Anderson drove in runs with back-to-back singles. Following the delay, Jayden Asencio walked with the bases loaded before Sundar struck for a two-run single to center field, scoring Moore and Anderson.

The Dolphins got a run back in the seventh to take a 10-6 lead before scoring five in the eight to extend the margin.

CSU wraps up the series with Le Moyne at 12:00 pm on Sunday, April 27 at Joe Cannon Stadium.
