Baseball Drops Midweek Non-Conference Tilt at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference tilt at Navy, 17-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Max Bishop Stadium.  The Eagles fell to 4-18 on the season as the Midshipmen improved to 13-11.

Curtis Battle and Anthony Divittorio both had RBI while Gavin Grutzmacher, Indy Anderson and Bryce Thompson also had hits. Anderson and Jayden Asencio scored Coppin's only runs with Grutzmacher recording a double for the team's lone extra-base hit.

Jobe Olson made just his second appearance of the season on the mound and gave up two earned runs on two hit in 2.0 innings. Noah Hogan threw the next 1.1 innings and allowed six runs. Isaiah Licorish was charged with two unearned runs over the next 1.2 innings before Jeremiah Eneix and Park Roeder combined thro finish the sixth inning.

Olson escaped trouble in the first and stranded a pair of Midshipmen on base without allowing a run. However, Navy scored four in the second on just one hit while capitalizing on an Eagles error. The hosts added two more in the third before,  Coppin got on the board in the fourth.

Anderson started the fourth with a single, and following a walk and a wild pitch, Battle grounded out to shortstop to bring in Anderson. Divittorio followed with an RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Navy put another four runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning before tacking on two in the fifth and six in the fifth to seal the win.

The Eagles will head North to Central Connecticut State for a three-game NEC series on March 28-30. Friday's game is set for 3 pm, followed by a 1 pm start on Saturday at Dunkin' Park, the home of the Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate Hartford Yard Goats. Sunday's series finale will start at 12 pm.
