Nieves Homers in Baseball Second-Straight NEC Loss to Wagner

HANOVER, Md. – Daniel Moore and Samuel Nieves drove in a pair of runs each as Coppin State's baseball team dropped its second-straight game to Wagner College, 12-7, in NEC play on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles fell to 1-16 overall and 2-3 in the NEC while the Seahawks improved to 11-10 on the year and 6-2 in league play.

Nieves' two RBI came on a two-run home run and he also drew a walk and Moore finished 2-for-5 while drawing a walk as well. Indy Anderson also had a multi-hit game with two runs and three walks and Gabe Breckenridge scored three times after going 1-for-2 with three walks.  The Eagles drew 13 walks on the day.

Jobe Olson made his CSU debut and threw a 1-2-3 first inning before Luke Corcoran went the next 4.0 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits. Justin Ritz gave up just one hit in his lone inning before Noah Hogan allowed two earned runs in 2.0 innings. Jeremiah Eneix struck out a pair of batters in his lone inning of work.

Nieves gave Coppin an early 2-0 lead with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first and that advantage held until the third when Wagner got on the board with a run. An RBI single by Moore in the bottom of the frame got the run back for the Eagles, but the Seahawks tied it at three with runs in both the fourth and fifth.

Wagner took advantage of two CSU errors in the sixth and scored six in the sixth to take a 9-3 lead before adding a run in the seventh. Anthony Divittorio walked with the bases loaded in the seventh, but the Seahawks tacked on two more in the eighth.  Jayden Asencio also drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth and the Eagles had two more walks in the ninth to score runs in the ninth.

Coppin returns to action on Sunday, March 23 when it hosts Wagner in the series finale at 1 pm at Joe Cannon Stadium.
