DOVER, Del. – Laila Lawrence led four Eagles in double figures with 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead Coppin State's women's basketball team to a 73-59 victory over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall. The Eagles improved to 17-11 overall and 8-4 in the MEAC.

- Lawrence posted her league-leading 18th double-double of the season, tying her for third nationally, while making 8-of-9 from the free throw line. She also added two assists, four steals and a pair of blocks.
- Her 467 points this season are now tied for 12th in CSU single-season history and her 287 rebounds sit eighth. She's also nearing the top ten in both steals and blocks.
- In four collegiate seasons, Lawrence is nearing 1,600 points and went over 1,000 rebounds in her career. She now has 890 points and 600 rebounds in her two seasons at Coppin.
- Tiffany Hammond buried five 3-pointers for 15 points, followed by Angel Jones with 14 points, Arielle-Vadrelle Belinga with a season-high ten, and Cire Worley with nine.
- Jones and Worley both pulled down seven rebounds while Jones dished out seven assists. Hammond and Niyah Gaston were also credited with three assists apiece.
- The Eagles outshot the Hornets, 37.1% to 30.9%, made 13-of-15 free throws and outrebounded Delaware State, 55-42.
How it Happened
- The teams traded buckets early on before Hammond started a 10-0 run with a three at the 7:33 mark, followed by a layup from Belinga and five-straight points by Lawrence.
- Worley buried a three following a pair of Hornets free throws and Lawrence converted on her second three-point play of the quarter to extend CSU's lead into double digits.
- DSU was able to pull within 23-15 before Worley stopped the short drought with another three, starting another 12-0 Eagles run where Hammond hit two more threes.
- Coppin led by as many as 39-17 in the first half and went into the half with a 41-22 advantage.
- Two free throws by Kylah Moore late in the third extended Coppin's lead to 59-30, its largest of the afternoon.
- DSU outscored Coppin in the fourth quarter, but the margin was too large to overcome for the Hornets.
