HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team allowed a nine-run fourth inning in a 16-0 loss to VMI on Sunday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Eagles fell to 1-4 on the season while the Keydets remain undefeated at 7-0.
VMI scored twice in the first and that was all it needed, but
Kaden Straily got a 1-2-3 second inning for the Eagles. The Keydets struck for another run in the third as Straily stranded three Keydets on base.
A pair of errors and four hits keyed the big inning for VMI in the fourth as they extended the lead to 12-0. The Keydets added another run in the fifth and three in the seventh.
Straily went the first 3.0 innings and allowed seven runs on four hits while striking out two before giving way to
Michael Matthews who went the next two innings with two strikeouts and giving up three runs.
Park Roeder was next in line and struck out three while allowing three runs over the next 1.2 innings.
Keith Wallace struck out the final batter after allowing a hit.
Indy Anderson had the lone hit for the Eagles while
Noah Hogan drew a pinch-hit walk in the seventh inning.
The Eagles return to the field at Villanova on Tuesday, February 23 in a 3 pm start.
