Divittorio Has Multi-Hit Day as Baseball Falls at Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Anthony Divittorio had a pair of hits and drove in a run as Coppin State's baseball team fell at Villanova, 12-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark. The Eagles fell to 1-6 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 4-3.
 
Divittorio went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI as the Eagles tallied seven hits on the day. Indy Anderson also drove in a run with a single and four other Eagles added base knocks.
 
Brandon Stephens took the loss after allowing the first four runs of the game. Justin Ritz tossed the next 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and he was followed by Michael Matthews and Keith Wallace who combined to throw the next two innings with Wallace striking out two. Tyrone Lake was on the hill when Villanova upped its lead to ten runs.
 
Coppin took a 1-0 lead in the top of as the first as Divittorio led off the game with a double before scoring on Anderson's single to right field.
 
Villanova scored five runs in its half of the first but Ritz got a 1-2-3 second inning and faced the minimum in the third, highlighted by a 6-3 double play. The Wildcats extended their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth and added another in the sixth.
 
Divittorio drove in a run in the seventh with a single through the left side, scoring Daniel Moore from second after he singled and advanced into scoring position on a single by Curtis Battle.
 
A pair of wild pitches in the seventh led to a pair of runs for Villanova as the game was called.
 
The Eagles host UMass in a three-game series starting on Friday, February 28 at 3 pm.  Saturday's and Sunday's games are scheduled for 1 pm.
