BALTIMORE – Angel Jones finished with 19 points as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell to Norfolk State, 76-54, on Saturday afternoon at PEC Arena. The Eagles fell to 16-10 overall and 7-3 in the MEAC while Spartans improved to 23-4 on the year and a perfect 10-0 in league play.

- Jones hit 7-of-15 from the floor and all five of her free throws to lead the Eagles, who also got 11 points on three 3-pointers from Niyah Gaston. Jones also had five rebounds and four assists.
- Tiffany Hammond also made three shots from distance for nine points, and she was followed by Laila Lawerence and Cire Worley with five points each.
- With her three triples, Hammond moved into fifth place on Coppin's all-time 3-pointers list with 108 in just two seasons at CSU, passing both Natasha Parks and Mossi Staples today. Her 56 threes this season ties Staples for the seventh-most in CSU single-season history.
- Lawrence grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with a pair of assists and a steal.
- Gaston and Worley matched Lawrence with a pair of assists.
- Norfolk State got 28 points from Kierra Wheeler and outshot Coppin, 49.2% to 36.4% from the floor.
- Coppin turned the ball over 20 times which translated into 22 points for the Spartans.
How it Happened
- Gaston buried an early three to pull Coppin to within, 4-3, but the Spartans scored the next eight points to extend their lead to 12-3.
- Jones scored the next four points to cut the deficit to just five before the Spartans quickly doubled their lead and got a late putback by Wheeler to go up 19-10 after the first.
- Norfolk State led by as many as 34-15 with 3:13 left in the second but the Eagles got a jumper from Jones and back-to-back threes from Hammond and Gaston, cutting the halftime score to 34-23.
- Early baskets from Worley and Jones in the third made it a 34-27 ballgame at the 8:24 mark, but NSU went on a 10-0 run, which included a three by Wheeler.
- Norfolk continued to extend the lead before a three by Gaston closed the period, but Coppin got no closer in the fourth.
