Volleyball Rallies To Defeat Delaware State in Final Road Match of the Season

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Delaware State, 3-2 (30-28, 25-27, 20-25, 25-23, 16-14) on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hall.  The Eagles improved to 19-11 overall and 12-1 in the MEAC while the Hornets fell to 10-17 on the year and 6-7 in league play.
 
TaKenya Stafford and Cherisse Atilano once again posted double-doubles, as did setter Azul Pilahg as Coppin outhit Delaware State, .162 to .114. The Eagles also had a season-high 14 total blocks, their most since recording a school-record 17 in a 4-set win against Portland on September 16, 2023.  The 14 total blocks also matches a five-set school-record which last occurred in a win over Eastern Michigan on September 16, 2022.
 
Stafford led the Eagles with 16 kills on .152 hitting to go with 15 digs and four blocks.  Atilano matched Ayanna Pharoah with 11 kills to go with 12 digs and an ace. Pharoah's .259 hitting percentage was tops on the team among qualified hitters and she added a block and two digs.
 
Middle hitters Ahzhi Coleman and Kayden Cupid both had five kills with Cupid leading the defense with seven blocks to Coleman's three blocks.  Deviana Walker and Ivanna Luna also combined for seven kills.
 
Pilahg led the CSU setters with 24 assists while adding 11 digs and a pair of aces.  Andrea Serrano assisted on 17 of the team's 56 kills to go with an ace and five digs.
 
In the back row, Coco Figueroa led all players with 16 digs to go with seven assists and an ace.
 
Coppin wraps up the regular season on Friday, November 14 when it hosts Morgan State in a 6 pm start on ESPN+. Prior to the match, the Eagles will recognize seniors Ahzhi Coleman, Ayanna Pharoah, Azul Pilahg, Andrea Serrano, TaKenya Stafford and Gabriela Zuquelo.
