Sydney Burris posted a double-double as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell to Missouri State, 77-56, in the GEICO Coconut Hoops Consolation Game on Sunday afternoon at Alico Arena. The Eagles fell to 1-7 on the season while the Bears improved to 6-2 overall.
A sophomore from Baltimore, Lowry buried five 3-pointers to surpass her old career-high of 14 points last season. Lowry got her first start of the season and made 6-of-11 from the floor and both of her free throws.
Burris matched a season-high with 11 points while making 5-of-6 free throws and her game-high 14 rebounds was a career-high. The senior from Milwaukee, Wisc., also had a pair of assists and two steals.
Also, in double figures for the Eagles was
Khila Morris, who finished with ten points, three assists and two steals.
Paris McBride added eight points and two assists while
Shanaii Gamble grabbed seven rebounds to go with four points.
The Eagles, who were outshot, 50% to 32.1%, kept pace with Missouri State throughout the first half and trailed just 20-16 after one and 32-24 at the half. The Bears pulled away in the second half, outscoring Coppin, 45-32 in the final 20 minutes.
Coppin outrebounded Missouri State, 38-34, and scored 19 second-chance points.
CSU plays host to Marshall at 6 pm on Wednesday, December 3, and Sacred Heart at 2 pm on Saturday, December 6. Both games will air on ESPN+.
