Volleyball Sweeps #8 South Carolina State in MEAC Quarterfinals

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's volleyball team swept #8 South Carolina State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) in the MEAC Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at PEC Arena.  The Eagles improved to 21-11 on the season to advance to the semifinals Friday evening against 4th-seeded Delaware State at 5 pm.
 
TaKenya Stafford collected her 21st double-double of the season with 12 kills and 11 digs while hitting .360 on 25 attacks.  The MEAC Player of the Year also added a pair of aces for 14 total points.
 
Ahzhi Coleman added seven kills on eight swings to hit .875 and had a team-high three blocks.  Cherisse Atilano, the MEAC Rookie of the Year, matched her in kills to go with 12 digs and a pair of aces.
 
Deviana Walker tallied six kills on .400 hitting, followed by Kayden Cupid with four and the trio of Ayanna Pharoah, Ivanna Luna and Beatriz Cornachini all had a pair apiece.
 
Azul Pilahg and Andrea Serrano combined for 37 assists on the team's 43 kills, quarterbacking the offense to a .318 hitting percentage.  MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Coco Figueroa was credited with ten digs as the Eagles held the Bulldogs to .170 hitting.
 
Kiyah Felder led South Carolina State with eight kills on .200 hitting to go with two blocks. Hailey Harris led the Bulldogs with three blocks while Miya Benson was credited with nine digs.  Ariana James had a match-high 23 assists.
