Women’s Hoops Falls at Local Rival, Towson, 65-54

TOWSON, Md. – Erin Henry and Patricia Sosa Lora scored 12 points apiece as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell at Towson, 65-54 on Sunday afternoon at TU Arena.  The Eagles fell to 1-4 on the year while the Tigers now stand at 3-2.

Henry's 12 points were a career-high as the junior guard hit 4-of-10 from the floor and three 3-pointers to go with six rebounds and two assists.  Sosa Lora buried 5-of-10 field goals to go with four rebounds off the bench.

Paris McBride also finished in double figures with ten points, followed by Khila Morris and Shanaii Gamble with eight points apiece. Morris added six rebounds, a game-high five assists, two steals and a block while Gamble led all players with eight rebounds.

Towson narrowly outshot Coppin, 38.6% to 32.8%, but hit 12-of-23 3-pointers.  The Eagles shot just 9-of-19 from the line, but outrebounded the Tigers, 46-40.

Henry started hot early in the game, hitting a three to tie the score at five before giving the Eagles the lead with a free throw at the 6:49 mark of the first half.  Towson scored the next eight points, and following a jumper by Kyley Gary-Grayson, buried a three as time expired in the quarter.

The Tigers built a double-digit lead in the second quarter and took a 34-25 lead into the locker room, but Coppin slowly battled back in the third. Midway through the period, after another Towson 3-pointer, Gamble started a run with a jumper before feeding Sosa Lora for back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to 40-38 with 3:25 remaining.

Once again Towson was able to stop the drought with a three and went into the fourth with a 46-40 advantage. The Tigers quickly extended their lead to double figures once again, which Coppin cut back to within 55-49 with 3:20 left, but Towson scored six-straight points and never looked back.

Coppin returns to action at nationally ranked Tennessee on Sunday, November 23 for a 2:00 pm tipoff on SEC Network Plus. The matchup with the Volunteers will be the Eagles' fourth Power Conference opponent through the first six games this season.
