NORFOLK, Va. – Angel Jones scored a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers, but the Coppin State women's basketball team fell at Norfolk State, 82-66 on Saturday afternoon at Echols Memorial Hall. The Eagles fell to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC while the Spartans fell to 15-4 on the year and 3-0 in league play.

- Jones hit 11-of-19 shots from the floor with four 3-pointers and also made three free throws for the best scoring output of her career. She also had a career high with eight rebounds to go with three assists, both of which led the team.
- Laila Lawrence and Niyah Gaston followed with nine points apiece with Lawrence also recording six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
- Cire Worley chipped in with six points and the rest of the team combined for just 13 points.
- Coppin shot 45.1% from the floor with eight 3-pointers and 12-of-18 free throws while the Spartans sunk 50% from the floor and 12-of-14 from the line.
- Norfolk State, which had five players in double figures, scored 22 points off 15 CSU turnovers.
How it Happened
- The teams traded baskets to open the game and Coppin took its first lead, 7-6, after a three by Gaston at the 4:14 mark.
- Norfolk scored the next six points to go up five before the Eagles scored the final seven points of the quarter, taking a 14-12 lead.
- Gaston was fouled while shooting a three early in the second and hit all three free throws to maintain a 17-15 advantage.
- She also followed a NSU bucket with another three before the Spartans embarked on a 12-2 run to go up by seven at the midway point of the period.
- Coppin cut into the deficit, pulling to within three on a triple by Jones with seven seconds to go, but Norfolk answered with a three just before the buzzer.
- Norfolk built a double-double lead in the third period and Coppin got no closer than eight points in the final ten minutes.
