TEANECK, N.J. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped a pair of games at FDU on Saturday afternoon, falling 9-0 in game one, and 15-7 in the nightcap. The Eagles fell to 12-28 on the season and 11-17 in the NEC while the Knights improved to 21-27.
Game 1: FDU def. Coppin State, 9-0
Coppin recorded just two hits, coming from
Anthony Divittorio and
Daniel Moore, while Moore and
Kai Holm also drew walks.
Brody Black was hit by a pitch twice and
Angel Colon was plunked once, accounting for the team's only baserunners.
Nico Felber was charged with six earned runs while striking out five in 6.0 innings.
Jackson Montgomery allowed just two runs on one hit over the final 2.0 innings.
FDU struck for two in the first before Felber faced the minimum in the second by getting an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play. The Knights scored at least a run in the next five innings to extend their lead before Montgomery got a scoreless eighth.
Game 2: FDU def. Coppin State, 15-7
Samuel Nieves went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while
Damon Gaither and
Kai Holm went deep as well.
Anthony Divittorio had a multi-hit game which included a double.
Alek Elges gave up nine runs over the first 3.2 innings before
Clay Thompson struck out six over the next 2.2 innings while allowing just a run.
Jaedin Hurd retired a pair of batters, but not before giving up three runs and
Justin Ritz allowed a run in the final inning.
Coppin scored four runs in the first with Nieves and Gaither recording back-to-back home runs. Nieves' blast to center field drove in three runs.
FDU also went back-to-back in the first with two solo home runs, cutting Coppin's lead to 4-2, and it added another run in the second to pull within one.
Holm slugged a two-run homer in the fourth, extending the advantage back to 6-3 before the hosts scored seven unanswered runs to take a 10-6 lead.
Angel Colon drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, but the Knights got the run back in the bottom half and pulled away with a four-run eighth.
