Baseball Drops Game Two at Stonehill, 11-5

EASTON, Mass. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped game two of its three-game Northeast Conference series at Stonehill, 11-5 on Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.  The Eagles fell to 12-22 overall and 11-12 in the NEC while the Skyhawks moved to 14-22 on the year and 9-11 in league play.

Kai Holm went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Damon Gaither and Daniel Moore both homered to drive in a run. Samuel Nieves also had a pair of hits and two RBI.

Alek Elges was charged with nine earned runs while striking out five in the first 5.0 innings. Liam McCallum went the next 2.0 innings, holding Stonehill scoreless on just one hit while fanning three. Justin Ritz threw the final inning and allowed a run.

Nieves gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the first, driving in Anthony Divittorio and Holm who had back-to-back singles to start the game and advanced on Gaither's single which loaded the bases.

Stonehill got one run back in its half of the inning before taking a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the second.

After both teams went scoreless in the third, Moore led off the fourth with a home run to left center, tying the score at three.  However, the Skyhawks plated five in the bottom half and added another two in the fifth, extending their advantage to 10-3.

Chris Marte drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 10-4, but Stonehill once again got the run back, tacking on one in the eighth. Gaither hit his team-leading eighth home run with one out in the ninth but the final two Eagles grounded out.

The Eagles wrap up the series with Stonehill at 11:30 am on Sunday, April 28.
