Baseball Wins Sixth-Straight Conference Game; Completes Sweep of MD Eastern Shore

HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team won its sixth-straight conference game and completed a three-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore with a 7-1 NEC victory on Sunday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.  The Eagles improved to 12-20 overall, and 11-10 in league play, and are now tied for fifth in the conference standings.

Daniel Moore and Samuel Nieves both drove in two runs while Moore and Kai Holm had multi-hit games. Holm and Chris Marte scored two runs apiece as Marte drew four walks in his four plate appearances.

Kaden Straily won his second game of the season, allowing just one run on seven hits in 6.0 innings.  Liam McCallum went the final 3.0 innings, giving up just one hit and a walk to pick up the save.

Maryland Eastern Shore scored a run in the first, but Coppin tied it up with a run in second on an RBI double by Moore. Marte scored on the play after drawing a one-out walk and getting to second on a wild pitch.

It remained a tie score until the sixth when the Eagles erupted for five runs on three hits to go with three walks.  Anthony Divittorio drew a leadoff walk and got to second on a single by Holm.  A wild pitch advanced both runners, and following a walk by Damon Gaither, Nieves singled through the left side for two runs. Another walk loaded the bases before Angel Colon was plunked for another run. Brody Black delivered an RBI single on a bunt and Noah Murciano drove in another on a groundout.

Moore singled in another run in the seventh as Straily and McCallum held the Hawks scoreless over the last eight innings.

The Eagles return to the diamond on April 26-28 for a three-game NEC series at Stonehill.
