SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped its second-straight game to Le Moyne College, 8-1 in NEC play on Friday afternoon at Dick Rothwell Field. The Eagles fell to 5-15 overall and 4-7 in the NEC while the Dolphins improved to 9-13 on the year and 5-5 in league play.
CSU only had three base hits with
Sam Nieves recording an RBI double.
Kai Holm and
Brody Black had the other hits for the Eagles while
Chris Marte drew a walk.
Alek Elges gave up seven runs on seven hits over the first 5.0 innings while striking out five.
Liam McCallum went the final 3.0 innings and allowed just one run on four hits.
Nieves gave Coppin a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, driving in
Damon Gaither with a double to right field. Gaither reached base on a two-out error by the third baseman and got to second on the play.
Elges retired eight-straight Dolphins, getting the last two outs of the second before back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth. Le Moyne erupted for six runs in the fifth which included a grand slam before Elges got the final out of the inning.
Coppin put a runner on base in each of the last three innings but came up empty while Le Moyne added to its lead with two runs in the sixth.
The Eagles and Dolphins finish their series with a 12 pm start on Saturday, March 30.
