SMYRNA, Del. – Both the Coppin State men's & women's cross country teams took seventh in their respective races at the 2024 MEAC Championships, hosted by Delaware State on Saturday afternoon.
The sophomore duo of
Humed Nura and
Asa Francis led the men's team, placing 25
th and 29
th, respectively, while finishing the 8K (5-mile) in 27:19.8 and 27:39.1. Senior
Etiam Torgbenu finished shortly after in 28:07.1, good for 32
nd place.
Abdul Razak and freshman
Dentry Mortimer rounded out the scoring five in 29:20.3 and 29:32.9. All five runners set a personal record in the 8K.
Jayeed Norbal (31:28.8) and
Amiri Goode (33:13.7) also competed for the Eagles.
Norfolk State took the team title with four runners in the top five, behind individual champion Meshack Kuyo (23:18.2) of NC Central who took second in the team standings. Placing third was Delaware State, followed by Howard, Morgan State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State and South Carolina State.
On the women's side,
Gifty Oku led the way in 44
th place, covering the 5K in 23:36.6. A trio of Eagles finished back-to-back-to-back in
Halutie Hor (24:16.0),
Tracey Riley (24:33.1) and
Kyah La Fortune (25:09.3).
Nackera Allen also finished in 53
rd place to seal the team score.
The Spartans also claimed the women's team title, followed by Howard, NC Central, Morgan State, Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State and South Carolina State. Norfolk State had four of the top six finishers with Howard's Joslyn Crosby winning the individual crown in 17:15.1.
