Coppin State Athletics Receives NCAA’s 2024-25 Accelerating Academic Success Program Grant

| By:
INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in three years, Coppin State University's athletics department has been named a recipient of the NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program (AASP) initiative grant.

CSU Athletics received a single-year grant totaling $100,000 from the NCAA and was one of 17 Division I institutions to receive the grant for the 2024-25 academic year. The athletics department will use the grant for student-athlete tutoring, technology upgrades, scholarships and academic support staffing.

"We are extremely fortunate to receive this grant, and we look forward to putting these funds to great use to help advance our department's academic support services," said Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Nichole Person. "Our student-athletes have done a tremendous job, graduating at an 89 percent rate, and we look forward to pushing that bar to make sure that everyone can compete inside and out of the classroom."

The Accelerating Academic Success Program grants help schools improve the academic success of their student-athletes. The goal is to support the schools' efforts to meet the requirements of the Division I Academic Performance Program, which was developed to ensure schools provide an environment that supports education while enhancing the ability of student-athletes to earn a degree.

"I appreciate the NCAA providing us with this grant to aid our student-athletes in their push to earn a degree," said Director of Athletics Derek Carter. "We have high academic standards for our student-athletes, and they rise to the challenge year after year. This support will help us continue that success."

The Mid-Eastern Conference recognized the Eagles' Athletic Department in June as its 2016 Student-Athlete cohort posted an 83 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which is once again the highest in the MEAC.
