WASHINGTON, D.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team fell to Howard, 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-12) in a battle of undefeated teams within the MEAC on Sunday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.  The Eagles fell to 9-12 overall and 5-1 in the MEAC while the Bison improved to 12-5 on the year and 6-0 in league play.

TaKenya Stafford led Coppin with nine kills while Gabriela Zuquelo and Sophia Bertotti Metoyer had four apiece.  Ezgi Kucuk and Deviana Walker had three kills each.

Coppin trailed early in the first but used a 6-0 run to turn a 9-5 deficit into a 11-9 advantage. Walker came up big during the stretch with three kills and a block.  Howard regained the lead at 15-14 and extended it to 20-16 with a 4-1 spurt.  Once again, the Eagles did not go away, scoring five-straight with points from Zuquelo at both ends to go back on top, 21-20. After Howard scored consecutive points, Parks tied it up with a kill before the Bison closed it out with three-straight points.

Zuquelo got a kill to start the second set, but it was the only lead for Coppin in the frame. Howard scored the next seven points and never looked back.  The Eagles were able to pull to within 11-9 on a 5-0 run, but the Bison answered with eight-straight points to pull away.

The Bison used a couple of long runs to take control of the third and complete the sweep.
