Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team recorded a season-high 12 aces and hit .333 in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-7) victory at South Carolina State on Friday night at Dukes Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC with the victory.
Paola Caten led the way with 11 kills while hitting .450, followed by
Hope Casel with nine kills on .538 swinging and
Takenya Stafford with seven kills. Stafford also had a pair of aces and was second on the team with eight digs.
Laila Ibrahim added six kills and a team-high four blocks, followed by
Andrea Tsvetanova and
Geraldyn Palacios with three kills and three aces apiece.
Kaliko Schilling also added a kill.
Tsvetanova assisted on 27 of CSU's 39 kills and
Ashley Roman was credited with 14 digs as the Eagles held the Bulldogs to .000 hitting.
Andrea Serrano added two more aces while Roman and
Coco Figueroa chipped in with one each.
Set 1
- Coppin never trailed and began to pull away with a 6-1 run to force a timeout at 13-5.
- The Eagles scored another four-straight with kills from three different players and an ace from Stafford to extend their advantage to 19-8 before taking the set.
Set 2
- A pair of 4-0 runs by the Navy & Gold with Caten tallying three kills gave Coppin an insurmountable lead at 13-6.
- South Carolina State pulled within five before CSU scored the final three points with a pair of kills from Stafford and another from Ibrahim.
Set 3
- Coppin scored the first eight points on four kills and a pair of aces from Tsvetanova before SC State got on the board.
- Casel then recorded a block and a kill, followed by a kill from Caten and a Bulldogs error before the hosts called timeout.
- SC State scored three-straight after the stoppage before CSU closed the match on a 13-3 run, capped off with a kill from Schilling.
