SMYRNA, Del. – Coppin State's men's cross country team took fifth of eight teams while the women finished seventh as the Eagles opened their season last Friday at the Sting Invite at the DSU Research & Outreach Center.
 
Etiam Torgbenu led the men's squad by finishing 17
th overall with a time of 18:01.9 on the 5K course. He was followed shortly after by freshman 
Humed Nura in 18:18.7 and 
Asa Francis in 18:32.2. 
Jayeed Norbal clocked a 19:33.8 while 
Stephen Spencer and 
Amiri Goode finished in 20:28.0 and 20:36.8, respectively.
 
On the women's side, 
Saidai Stuteley led the way by covering the course in 24:45.8. A trio of Eagles finished back-to-back-to-back with 
Brianna Benton, 
Destinee Lewis and 
Kaelyn Woodrum while 
Kimani Alphonse rounded out the top five.
 
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 23 for the UMES Soaring Hawks Invitational.
