NORFOLK, Va. – Vanessa Carrizosa allowed just three runs on four hits in a complete game, but the Coppin State softball team fell at Norfolk State, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at NSU Softball Field. The Eagles now stand at 4-18 overall and 1-7 in the MEAC while the Spartans improve to 14-15 on the year and 5-4 in league play.
After a pair of scoreless innings, Carrizosa allowed a run in the third, and another in the fifth and sixth to go up 3-0. Carrizosa drew a walk to lead off the CSU seventh and was replaced by a pinch runner who was thrown at third attempting to steal following a wild pitch which got her to second.
The next two Eagles were retired to end the game.
Coppin put runners in scoring position in the first, third and sixth innings, but came up empty.
Brissa Alvarado led the Eagles with a single and a walk while
Brooklyn Tapusoa and
Ava Camarena also had hits.
CSU hosts Saint Peter's for a 3 pm doubleheader on Wednesday, April 5, followed by a three-game MEAC series against Maryland Eastern Shore on April 7-8. Friday's doubleheader is set for 1 pm followed by a 12 pm start on Saturday.
