BALTIMORE – Coppin State's softball team dropped a pair of games in its MEAC opener to Morgan State on Saturday afternoon at CSU Softball Field. The Eagles, who now stand at 2-11 on the season, fell in the opener, 3-0, before falling in game two, 9-1.
Vanessa Carrizosa went the distance in the circle in game one, allowing just three runs on eight hits while striking out a pair. Unfortunately, Coppin could not get the bats going, and were held without a baserunner despite numerous hard-hit balls all over the diamond.
Morgan State scored a run in the third before recording two more in the fourth, and that was more than enough for Anaya Hunte.
In game two, Morgan State scored a run in the first before putting an eight spot on the board in the second.
Brandilyn Reymer, who pitched the final 3.2 innings, got the last two outs of the second and did not allow an earned run in her outing.
Reymer struck out the side in the fourth and froze the final two batters of the fifth to strike out a season-high seven on the day.
The Eagles threatened to extend the game in the fifth, recording a run on three hits including an RBI single from
Brissa Alvarado, but lined out to left field to end the game.
CSU and Morgan State will close out their three-game series on Sunday, March 19 at 12 pm at Coppin State Softball Complex.
