BALTIMORE – Coppin State's softball team fell in its series finale to Morgan State, 8-0, on a cold, blustery Sunday afternoon the CSU Softball Field. The Eagles now stand at 2-12 and 0-3 in the MEAC while the Bears improve to 12-11 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Vanessa Carrizosa allowed just four earned runs in 5.2 innings while
Isabel Tobias retired the lone batter she faced.
Brissa Alvarado,
Seryna Esparza and
Aniyah Haley had one hit apiece with Esparza recording a double in the bottom of the first.
Carrizosa got a 1-2-3 first inning before Morgan scored a pair of runs on three hits in the second. An error helped the Bears add one more in the third and Morgan extended its lead to 5-0 with a two-run fourth inning.
Morgan went scoreless in the fifth but scored three unearned runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Alvarado led off the sixth with a single, attempting to spark things for the Eagles, but Coppin came up empty.
CSU will travel to UMBC for a 2:00 pm first pitch on Wednesday, March 22.
