KENT, Ohio – Laila Lawrence and
Faith Blackstone had 12 points apiece as Coppin State's women's basketball team fell at Kent State, 77-40 on Wednesday night at the M.A.C. Center. The Eagles now stand at 3-5 on the season while the Flashes improve to 4-2.
Both Lawrence and Blackstone hit four shots from the floor with a three and three free throws while Blackstone had a team-high six rebounds. Lawrence grabbed five boards and blocked a pair of shots.
Mossi Staples added seven points but the Eagles were outshot 48.4% to 23.6% and were outrebounded, 47-28.
How it Happened
- Lawrence had Coppin's only four points of the opening quarter as both teams struggled offensively early on.
- Kent scored the last seven points of the quarter, but Lawrence kept the Eagles close with a three with 5:29 left in the second quarter to make it an 18-13 score.
- The Flashes went on a 12-3 run to close the half and pulled away in the third by outscoring Coppin, 26-7.
- Coppin played its best quarter in the fourth with 17 points, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
