DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's volleyball team swept South Carolina State, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) with a season-high 16 aces in the MEAC Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon on the campus of Delaware State University. The Eagles are now 25-4 overall on the season.
TaKenya Stafford led Coppin with nine kills on .233 swinging to go with 12 digs while
Paola Caten and
Ammaarah Williams had six kills apiece.
Hope Casel added five kills, followed by
Geraldyn Palacios with four and
Laila Ibrahim with two.
Andrea Tsvetanova and
Andrea Serrano split time at setter with Tsvetanova recording 13 assists to Serrano's 12. Tsvetanova served a whopping nine aces, with eight coming in the second set alone which included five-straight to finish the frame.
Ashley Roman was credited with ten digs, followed by Williams with nine, Serrano with seven and Tsvetanova with six. Williams also had four aces as Roman served two more.
Palacios led all players with five blocks while Casel added four and Ibrahim finished with two.
The Eagles outhit South Carolina State, .218 to .019 and held the Bulldogs to -.054 hitting in the final set.
Coppin will play the winner of Maryland Eastern Shore/Norfolk State on Saturday, November 18 at 5:30 in the MEAC Semifinals.
