COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Coppin State's softball team held Maryland to eight runs but was unable to capitalize as it fell to the Terrapins, 8-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
After forcing Maryland to a scoreless first inning, all of Maryland's runs came in the second and third innings as
Kayleigh Reome struck out Regan Kerr before Maryland hit a homerun to get on the board.
After Maryland erupted for seven runs in the third,
Maren Bernal held the Terrapins scoreless in the fourth.
Alexis Genovese recorded a hit up the middle for a single in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to make up for Maryland's scoring margin.
Brissa Alvarado and
Jaslyn Sanchez reached base safely two times via free passes as the Eagles stranded eight runners on base.
The Eagles are set to travel to Princess Anne Md., to face off against University of Maryland Eastern Shore in a 1pm MEAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 9.
