Softball Ties Score in Seventh; Falls in Bottom Half at The Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Coppin State's softball team rallied from four runs down to tie the score but fell to University of Maryland Eastern Shore 6-5, on Saturday afternoon at the Hawk Field. 

Jaslyn Sanchez led the team with two runs, along with an RBI double and a stolen base.  

Vanessa Carrizosa scored a run, and an RBI single with two walks and allowed two earned runs on six hits through four innings. Kayleigh Reome gave up three earned runs on five hits in two innings.  Melanie Aguilera had a hit and scored a run.  

After a stolen base by Sanchez, she scored a run on an RBI single from Carrizosa in the third to tie the score at 1-1.

The Hawks held the Eagles scoreless until the seventh inning while they took a 5-1 lead through the sixth inning.

Coppin made a big comeback run in the seventh starting with an RBI double from Sanchez to score Olivia Edmondson.  Aguilera later scored a run on of a wild pitch before Sanchez scored once again as Alexis Genovesewas caught stealing.  Carrizosa eventually tied the score at 5-5 with a run on of a wild pitch as Brissa Alvarado drew a walk.  

After four runs and four hits for the Eagles to close out the top of the seventh, Garcia hit an RBI double to help The Shore sneak away with a 6-5 win.  

The teams will face off tomorrow for a 12 pm doubleheader at the Hawk Field.
