TOWSON, Md. – Brissa Alvarado homered and
Vanessa Carrizosa tossed a complete game while adding a pair of base hits but it was not enough as the Coppin State softball team fell to Providence, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Demarini Tiger Clash. The Eagles fall to 0-8 on the season while the Friars improve to 9-5.
Providence took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run single in the first inning, But Carrizosa threw a 1-2-3 second inning which included a strikeout. Alvarado cut the deficit in half with a solo home run to center field before another 1-2-3 inning by Carrizosa in the third.
Carrizosa was left stranded in scoring position after a two-out double in the Coppin half of the frame and Providence made the Eagles pay with another run in the fourth. The Friars plated another run in the sixth to go on top 4-1 as the Eagles left three runners on base in the final two innings.
Carrizosa went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk while Alvarado,
Makayla Caballero and
Desiree Carrizosa also recorded singles. In the circle, Carrizosa allowed just four runs while striking out a pair in her fourth complete game of the season.
The Eagles wrap up the Invitational on Sunday, March 6 when they take on Columbia at 12:30, followed by the host Tigers at 3 pm.
